Beat Hazard - What I Miss

This is Beat Hazard, and this is what I miss.

For a couple years in a row when I was in high school, I did nothing but play this game during the holiday season. So it was really nice to go back to it and have just as much fun with it as I used to, if not more!

Beat Hazard is an indie arcade shooter crossed with a rhythm game. You have the usual, addicting, twin-stick spaceship shooter action combined with music dynamics. The levels are randomly generated based on your song choice, and how intense both your shots and your enemies are depends on how intense your music gets!

Oh yeah, and the lighting effects are INSANE, so if you’re sensitive to that stuff, stay away.

There are normal waves of enemies as well as boss portions. Your attack power increases as you pick up volume increases and power ups. You can also pick up additional bombs or uses from some of your upgrades. As you kill enemy spaceships or asteroids you can also earn money towards Perk purchases and upgrades.

As you play, you level up and unlock perks. You then spend your money on these perks and upgrading them. The perks give you anything from additional lives, to extra multipliers, additional weapons, etc.

Did I mention it’s addictive?

It’s also very simple to just jump in and play for a song or two, then jump out. You can index music you already own, or stream from their Internet Radio options.

Cold Beam Games (BH’s devs) also added a “Shadow Ops” DLC which allows you to download community-created ships from the Steam Workshop and complete challenges with them. My favorite so far is a Batarang-inspired ship. The BatShip.

Overall Beat Hazard is insanely addictive and I really have nothing to complain about other than HOW INSANELY FRUSTRATING THE HARDER DIFFICULTIES CAN BE.
