Still; Storm
There’s something really calming and comforting about sitting out at the start of a storm. The “calm before the storm” phrase really seems to hold true.
As I sit still, waiting for the storm to come, the world sits here with me. Everything is tranquil, everything is still.
The storm slowly makes its way to me, but is still quite comforting. The mood darkens around me, a blue-ish tint falls upon my surroundings as the storm clouds occupy the sky.
The sound of light spring raindrops hitting the ground, the grass, the roofs and cars. Such a potentially destructive force, and yet I feel so welcoming towards it.
Flashes of lightning that don’t yet have their thunder, light booms of distant thunder adding more variety to the already diverse soundscape.
Power lines bouncing, leaves blowing, and trees swaying in the wind. Wind chimes and various debris blowing in the wind, producing music-like sounds. Animals scurrying to their homes. The occasional car passing by on its way home from work or the store.
The rain has really picked up now. Lightning strikes are brighter and more frequent. The thunder booms with more power, and ear-rocking bass. Water is rushing and splashing its way down the gutter spout near me.
Despite the chaos, the potential havoc that this storm could bring, I sit still, very calmly in it all. Harmonized with the ways of nature. I am comforted knowing that nature will have its way no matter what I do, and that everything will still turn out okay.
The world is moving and changing all around me. Yet I sit here in the middle of it all, unharmed by its ways. Nature may have its way with the world, but here in this moment, I remain still.
